What free scheduling looks like in Google Classroom
There are two distinct things teachers mean when they ask about scheduling assignments in Google Classroom for free.
Scheduling a single post in advance — Google Classroom handles this natively. You write an assignment, choose “Schedule” instead of “Post”, and set the publish date and time. This is a built-in feature available to all Google Classroom users at no cost.
Scheduling recurring assignments — Google Classroom does not support this natively. There is no built-in repeat or recurrence option. Each recurring assignment has to be posted manually, or you use a scheduling tool that adds the recurring layer.
Option 1 — Native Google Classroom scheduling (free, one-off)
When you create an assignment, material, or announcement in Google Classroom, you can set a future publish date and time. This is free and requires no additional setup.
What it covers:
- One-off advance scheduling for any post type
- Setting a due date on the assignment
- Attaching Drive files or links at time of creation
What it does not cover:
- Repeating the same post on a weekly or termly cadence
- Recurring due dates that follow each occurrence
- Email alerts when the post publishes
Option 2 — Class Add-Ons free plan (free, recurring)
Class Add-Ons Scheduler adds a recurring scheduling layer for Google Classroom. The free plan is permanently free and covers one active scheduling task — enough to run one recurring routine from the start of term to the end.
What the free plan covers:
- One active recurring scheduling task
- Daily, weekly, monthly, or termly recurrence
- Start date, stop date, and publish time
- Due date per recurrence (fixed or relative)
- One attachment (link or Google Drive file)
- Email alerts on each publish
What requires Premium:
- More than one active scheduling task
- Unlimited attachments and links per task

Starting with the free plan
The free plan is a useful test of the recurring workflow. Sign in with Google, create one scheduling task, set the recurrence and stop date, and watch the first occurrence publish. If the workflow fits, Premium removes the task limit and attachment limit.
There is no card required to start the free plan and no expiry date on it.
